Blood Centers of America member, LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, selected to provide CD34 cells to Dr. Abba C. Zubair of Mayo Clinic.
Blood Centers of America member LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, headquartered in Gainesville, Fla., was selected to provide umbilical cord blood-derived CD34 cells to regenerative medicine specialist Dr. Abba C. Zubair of Mayo Clinic in Florida for his research study aboard the International Space Station.
A spacecraft scheduled to launch from Kennedy Space Center later this month will carry the cryogenically preserved cells provided by LifeSouth to the International Space Station. Crew members on board will thaw the cells and seed them into specialized hardware to assess their expansion functions and characteristics.
