Outstanding ISCT 2023 session “Automation and Digitalization in Manufacturing” moderated by Shannon Eaker with J. Kelly Ganjei, Edwin Stone, and Jeet Sarkar.
What are the barriers to the adoption of automation and digitization in manufacturing and what are the range of explore potential solutions?
Panel makes the point that the industry currently doesn’t feel the pain of the current manual, non-digital manufacturing model but we know the pain is in the failure to deliver treatments to eligible patients and inability to deliver these therapies well to people outside of centers of excellence.
Digitization drives greater data collection and analysis, will help identify CQAs, will drive automation, and will lead to advanced therapies allowing localization which is critical to greater patient access.
We believe one of the current barriers to people buying into closed, automated, digitized manufacturing systems is the association of decentralized manufacturing with point-of-care manufacturing. We believe a hyper-local, near-point-of-care infrastructure relying on closed, automated, quality management system-controlled bioprocessing systems with a strong biomaterials collections, processing and supply relationship to all local hospitals, is a ready footprint for this future.
